3 DIY Organizing Projects

I’m a huge fan of inexpensive organizing projects – especially ones where I can repurpose something I already have on hand. It also doesn’t hurt if they look really cute! Today Kaitlyn is sharing three organizing projects that fit all of my criteria.

Kaitlyn writes… One of my goals for the new year was to tackle some seriously neglected organizing projects around my house! I’ve been slowly but surely getting things done. It feels so good to get rid of things that were taking up needless space and to make better use of storing the things I want and need to have on hand.

I’ve also gone a bit label-crazy with my Silhouette Cameo! I love how pretty my bins and containers look with a cute label. It’s also totally practical! I have an easier time finding things and my husband also knows where to find things and where to put them away.

#1: Closet Storage

The first big project I tackled was my hall closet. I completely forgot to get a before picture so you’ll just have to take my word for it – this closet was a complete disaster! I had a few labeled bins but there really wasn’t much semblance of order. Both my husband and I would end up just throwing things on shelves when we were done with them and could never find what we needed.

So I hit up the Target dollar section and found these great plastic bins for $3 a piece. I like to use open bins rather than ones with lids so that I can easily find and put things away. Clear plastic bins with lids would work well too so that they can be stacked on top of one another.

I also got a few of these larger gold bins with lids for things that I don’t need to use as often. I downloaded that darling bone and Boxer graphic from the Silhouette Design Store and used my Cameo to cut it out of white vinyl.

My smaller bins are also clearly labeled with white vinyl.

I already had a few of these nice fabric bins on hand that I got at Walmart for a few dollars. For these labels I used my Cameo to cut the letters out of adhesive cardstock. Then I just put a cute piece of scrapbook paper behind the letters.

I have a couple of baskets that won’t permanently store one thing. So I made a label with more adhesive cardstock and scrapbook paper that can easily be changed out.

Finally, I’m using this great stacking plastic storage bin for my essential oils, salves, and accessories. These labels are also made from adhesive cardstock.

#2: Baking Supply Containers

My next project was these repurposed storage containers for baking supplies. I think they look so cute on my turquoise rolling cart from Ikea!

These containers originally held Jelly Bellys from Costco. We bought a ton of them for our Jillee Bean and the One Good Thing launch party. I held onto the containers because I knew they would eventually come in handy!

I smothered them with peanut butter to remove the Jelly Belly labels and painted the lids with a few coats of coral craft paint.

I made these labels with some really fun gold glitter vinyl and the Silhouette Adhesive Washi Sheets as a backing.

#3: Magnetic Spice Containers

My last project was some great magnetic spice containers. I feel like my spice cabinet is always a source of frustration! It’s tiny and very unorganized. I love the idea of having my spices clearly labeled and out where I can find them when I’m cooking.

I found these darling, magnetic backed containers for 50% off at Michael’s. Then I cut out labels with white vinyl on my Cameo. Simple as that!

I’m totally thrilled with how these three projects came out! It was so simple to create the labels on my Silhouette Cameo. I can’t wait to tackle the rest of my house in the coming weeks. I’ll be a label making machine! 😉
