4 Easy Ways To Strengthen Your Hair And Stop Split Ends

Eliminate frizz and kiss split ends goodbye.

Winter dryness is not just a problem for your skin. It can be really hard on your hair as well! Dry hair is brittle hair, and brittle hair is much more likely to break or split than hydrated hair. But you don’t have to resign yourself to a season of split ends! Follow these 4 simple tips, and your hair will stay happy and healthy all winter long.

1. Check Your Diet

Healthy hair starts with a healthy diet. A low-protein diet can actually result in hair loss, so make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of protein from meat, dairy, eggs, legumes, and other protein-rich foods.

Healthy fats are another important contributor to healthy hair. Healthy fats help your scalp produce the natural oils that keep your hair and scalp hydrated. Make sure you’re getting healthy fats in your diet from sources like avocados, fish, and nuts.

2. Use Heat Sparingly

Heat is one of your hair’s worst enemies! It dehydrates your hair, causing it become brittle and prone to breakage. Many of us use hot styling tools on our hair daily, but it’s important to avoid using them when possible to give your hair a break.

When you do use hot styling tools, you can help mitigate some of the potential damage by using a special heat-protectant hair products. If you’re unfamiliar, check out this helpful article from Allure listing their 10 favorite heat protectants under $20.

3. Use Gentle Tools

Hot styling tools aren’t the only tools that can cause hair damage. Other hair tools like combs, brushes, and elastics can hurt your hair too!

If you use a brush on your hair when it’s still wet, you might be doing more harm than good. Wet hair is more prone to breaking when its wet, so it’s important to be very gentle with it. Swap your brush out for wide-tooth comb when your hair is wet.

4. Apply a Nourishing Hair Mask

Everyone’s hair could use a bit of T.L.C. now and again, and this 2-ingredients hair mask will help re-hydrate dry and brittle hair.

You’ll need:

1 egg yolk
1 tsp honey
Shower cap

Combine the egg yolk and honey in a small bowl and mix well.

Apply the mixture to your hair, focusing mainly on the ends.

Put on a shower cap and let the mask sit on your hair for an hour or two. Wash and dry your hair as usual.
