These days, there are so many different forms of entertainment for us to choose from. And on top of that, there are a lot of different ways you can access that entertainment! Some people love to listen to podcasts while they work. Others like to watch Netflix on their tablet while they’re folding laundry. But for me, it’s all about the audiobooks! I listen to audiobooks while I drive, while I cook, occasionally while I work, and sometimes when I can’t fall asleep. It’s one of my very favorite pastimes, and I’m excited to share a little bit about it with you today!
There are plenty of different places you can buy and listen to audiobooks online, but today I’ll be sharing a little about my personal favorite option: Audible! 5 Reasons Why I Love Audible
Reason #1 – The Price Is Reasonable
An Audible membership costs $14.99 a month, which may seem a little steep compared to other monthly membership programs. However, I get so much mileage out of Audible that I consider it to be more than worth it! Your membership fee also gets you one credit each month, which you can redeem for one audiobook regardless of the price. Audiobooks typically range from $10-40 each, so if you’re listening to at least one book per month, the membership essentially pays for itself! And don’t worry, you get to keep the audiobooks you buy, even if you end up cancelling your membership later.
Of course, if you’re anything like me, you’ll be listening to way more than just one book a month! Even though you’ll have to pay for any additional audiobooks throughout the month, members do get a discount on the listed prices. I also appreciate the fact that you can return or exchange audiobooks for up to one year. If I start an audiobook and end up deciding that it’s not for me, I really like that I can return the book and get my credit refunded to my account.
Reason #2 – The Audible Mobile App
Having a good service or product is one thing, but it’s also increasingly important to have a good app. And luckily the Audible app is a joy to use! It has a clean design and is very user-friendly. It’s easy to search for books by author, title, genre, and even by narrator! (When you start listening to audiobooks regularly, you quickly realize that the narrator can have a big impact on how much you enjoy a particular book!)
The Audible app has other useful features too, like the ability to save clips of audiobooks. There’s also a setting you can turn on that will start playing your current audiobook automatically whenever you put your headphones in. And when you finish a book, the app will show you recommendations for other books you might be interested in starting next. Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options there are on Audible, so I find those recommendations to be really helpful!
Reason #3 – Syncing & Connectivity
I do a fair amount of driving, so I do a lot of audiobook listening in my car. Audible works seamlessly with my car’s Bluetooth system, so I can cue up my book and start listening within seconds of getting in my car. I can also use my Amazon Echo to listen to my audiobooks when I’m cooking in the kitchen!
While I’m mainly an audiobook listener, I know that a lot of people do a little bit of both in terms of listening to audiobooks and reading eBooks. If that sounds like you, the syncing functions available through Audible can be really helpful! There’s a feature called Whispersync that will keep track of where you’re at in your current book. So whether you’re listening to an audiobook or reading the Kindle version, you can switch back and forth between formats without losing your place! How cool is that??
Another great syncing feature is Amazon Match Maker. This feature will search your Kindle for eBooks you already own and offer you discounts for the audiobook versions of those titles. This works hand-in-hand with the Whispersync feature I mentioned above, which gives you the flexibility to enjoy a book throughout the day, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
Reason #4 – So Many Options!
The most significant advantage that Audible has over other audiobook listening services is their huge selection of books. No other service even comes close to the amount audiobooks that Audible offers! Whether you’re a fan of fiction, non-fiction, self-improvement, business, or any kinds of book really, you’re sure to find a lot of great options on Audible.
