7 Smart Ways To Use Grill Mats On The Grill

Unlock the potential of your grill with a grill mat!

For the past couple of weeks, any time is hasn’t rained (and sometimes when it has!) my husband and oldest son have been out using our smoker. We’re big fans of grilled and smoked meats around here. In fact, during the summertime we tend to do more dining in our backyard than in our actual dining room! And ever since I discovered grill mats, grilling is easier and more fun than ever before! I’m sure we’ll be setting a new record this summer for grill usage. 😉 Today I’ll be sharing some of my favorite ways to use grill mats on your grill, so you can make this summer your best grilling season yet!

If you are interested in purchasing some grill mats for yourself, you can CLICK HERE to order on Amazon. When I first discovered grills mats several months ago, I liked the idea so much I decided to start selling my own! 🙂

7 Ways To Use Grill Mats

1. Cleaning Shortcut

How many times have you decided not to use your grill or barbecue because you didn’t want to clean it? (I’ve done it, I’ll admit.) The great thing about using grill mats is that you don’t have to worry about scraping the grate clean before using your grill! (A real plus when using a grill at a public park or beach too!)

Just lay your grill mat over the cooking grate, and you’ve instantly got a clean surface to cook on. Then you’re only minutes away from your next grilled masterpiece!

2. Cooking Small Foods

When you grill on a grill mat, you’re not only cooking on a clean surface, but you’re cooking on a continuous surface, too. A large cooking surface opens up a world of possibilities, making it much easier to cook things like shrimp, fruits, veggies, and more. No more fretting about your smaller foods falling through the grate!

3. Grilling Pizzas

We don’t have A/C in our house, so when it really heats up in the summer, anything that heats up the house is off limits. The main offender is the stove and oven, which tends to limit my options for making dinner.

But with a couple of grill mats, I can use our grill in the backyard to cook almost anything that I would cook in the oven or on the stove, including homemade pizza! Just roll out the dough, toss it on the grill mat, and cook it on one side until you start to see grill marks. Then flip the dough, add your sauce, cheese, and toppings, and cook until the dough is done and the cheese has melted. A delicious dinner without heating up the house!

4. Grilled Breakfast

When I think about grilling, I’m usually thinking about dinner. But with a grill mat, you can whip up a deluxe breakfast in your backyard! This is a great way to enjoy the cool morning hours before it gets too hot out.

You can make eggs, bacon, and even pancakes with the help of your grill mat. For eggs and pancakes, make sure to use a non-stick spray or melt some butter over the surface first. The mats are pretty non-stick on their own, but eggs and pancakes need a bit of extra encouragement to keep them from sticking!

5. Grilled Lunch

There’s no need to stop at breakfast! A grilled lunch can be just as delicious. Two of our lunchtime favorites, grilled cheese sandwiches and quesadillas, are easy to cook up on a grill mat.

6. Cooking Veggies

No need to skewer your veggies when you’re using a grill mat. You can make great “stir-fried” veggies out on your grill, which taste great with just about any grilled meat. You can also pre-cook veggies to top your homemade pizzas!

7. Egg In The Basket

It’s a culinary wonder that is known by many names, like “toad in the hole,” “one-eyed jack,” and “egg in the hole.” It’s a fried egg cooked inside a piece of toast, and no matter what you call it, it’s a delicious and fun twist on breakfast!

To make one, start by cutting a circle out of the center of a piece of bread. Butter both sides of the piece of bread, then set it on your grill mat to start cooking. Crack and egg and gently drop it into the center of the bread. Let the egg and bread cook for a minute or two, then gently flip and cook until the egg is done to your liking. Yum!
