When I was a kid one of the most exciting things about back-to-school time was picking out my outfit for the first day! I would lay it all out the night before, complete with bookbag and school supplies inside. Then when I had kids of my own I got a vicariously thrill out of helping THEM decide on their first day outfit and then documenting every single one over the years until they refused to cooperate anymore. (Ungrateful kids!) 🙂
Now that my youngest is the only one still in school, (he’s going to be a JUNIOR! What the heck?!) I can’t exactly help him pick out his first day of school outfit and I KNOW he won’t let me photograph him holding a chalkboard saying “10th Grade”…lol…but I can still help him out with some accessories that will make his wardrobe more fashionable, comfortable, and fun!
I was recently introduced to this very cool new product called the Mission Belt (that also has a very cool mission — more about that later.)
The Mission Belt is different from ordinary belts, because instead of the typical holes separated by 1 inch-increments, this belt has a ratchet buckle system that adjusts in 1/4 inch intervals so you always get the PERFECT fit. Think of it as a giant (adjustable) zip-tie for your pants!
Eat too much pie and ice cream for dessert? Push the release button on the buckle and give yourself as much or as little breathing room as you need. 🙂
And not only does it give the perfect fit, it will wear for a long time because it doesn’t have holes that eventually become stretched out.
Since the buckles and leathers can be bought separately, you can mix and match to make your own unique combinations. The fashion combinations are practically endless!
These are a few of my favorite “looks”:
They’ve even recently started selling belts for NCAA schools and NBA & NHL teams with multiple color combos and logo buckles. I know what’s going under the tree this year for the men in my life! 🙂
The belts, priced from $35 to $40, are unisex and can be comfortably worn by men, women and children.
On top of providing an innovative and quality accessory, the company’s name, Mission Belt Co., alludes to another important part of their story…the fact that they dedicate a portion of their proceeds to help fight global hunger and poverty.
Mission Belt’s partnership with KIVA.org has helped people in over 70 countries become self-sufficient. With their focus primarily on agricultural projects, they are dedicated to helping people feed themselves and break the poverty cycle through KIVA micro-loans.
As of today they have extended over 24,000+ loans ranging from $25 – $500 to people all over the world. These small loans make HUGE differences and since 98 percent of the micro-loans are repaid, the money is lent out again and again.

Once I brought these belts home for my guys to try….they were all hooked! They loved them. They immediately starting picking out more buckles and leathers they’d like to have. They really are the perfect addition to the “back to school” wardrobe….or any wardrobe.
Plus, you can feel good knowing that you are in the fight against global poverty and hunger. You won’t only look good, you’ll feel good too. 🙂
If you are interested in purchasing a Mission Belt, the company is offering One Good Thing By Jillee readers a special 15% discount when you use the coupon code JILLEE at checkout.
Just in case my description of how this belt works wasn’t completely clear (and I realize that’s a very strong possibility) — take a look at this very short, very helpful video. 🙂
