I’ve really come to appreciate the humble coconut over the years. Coconut lends a great creamy texture and flavor to many delicious recipes, and don’t even get me started on piña coladas – they’re a classic drink for a reason, people! 🙂 But today I want to focus on coconut not as an ingredient in food and drinks, but as a skincare ingredient.
Coconut milk is packed with fatty acids, vitamins, and other beneficial properties that are great for skin. It has antibacterial properties that can help cleanse pores, while also being immensely hydrating at the same time. Today I’ll show you how you can combine coconut milk with raw honey and a bit of castile soap to make a facial cleanser that your skin is sure to thank you for!

But first – a few facts about raw honey. Honey also has antibacterial and moisturizing properties, which means this homemade facial cleanser is doubly good for minimizing imperfections and leaving you with healthy, glowing skin. And finally, a bit of added castile soap helps to make sure your pores are squeaky clean.
Another benefit of an all-natural facial cleanser like this is that it doesn’t contain any detergent ingredients – or surfactants. Surfactants are responsible for creating the lather you expect to see in soaps and many liquid cleansers, but the problem is they strip the natural lipid layer from the skin’s surface and destroy its protective barrier. In other words, they are simply too harsh for most skin types.
Alright, enough talk – let’s get started, shall we? 🙂
Coconut Milk Facial Cleanser
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup raw honey (Bonus points it it’s local!)
- 1/4 cup coconut milk*
- 1 Tbsp castile soap
*Note: Coconut milk is great for skincare, and I highly recommend giving it a try! However, if you don’t have access to coconut milk, or would prefer not to use it, you can substitute it out for coconut water or regular tap water.
Directions:
Add honey, coconut milk, and castile soap to a small bowl, and mix until well combined.
Transfer the mixture to a 4oz container. We used a plastic squeeze bottle that’s meant for decorating cakes!
Using Your Facial Cleanser
To use, pour a small amount of the honey mixture into your hand, and massage onto your face and neck. After cleansing, rinse well with warm water. Use daily for naturally clean and beautiful skin!
(Those with oily skin can add a pinch of baking soda to the cleanser before applying to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. Those with dry skin should skip this step!)
