“Corralling Hacks” – Get Organized by Upcycling!

Most people think of springtime as the season for organization, but I feel that I could also make a great case for fall! When back-to-school time rolls around, I definitely start thinking about getting organized for the coming year. I want my kids to start their school year off on the right foot, and I think that having a clean and organized home can help facilitate that.

But just because I want to tidy up, doesn’t mean I need to go out and spend a fortune on organizational boxes and totes. There are so many great ideas out there for reusing things you already have lying around, and turning them into helpful organizing solutions. I’ve posted quite a few of them myself here on my blog, but it’s always nice to have a refresher. 🙂 I’ve also included several other great ideas from around the web for extra inspiration!

Use a shoebox to create a central “charging station” for your family’s devices. For full instructions, head to A Simple DIY Family Charging Station.

A couple of cereal boxes can be used to make an organizer for magazines, mail, stationary and more! For full instructions, visit DIY Washi Tape Cereal Box Organizers

A few spare toilet paper rolls can help you tame the mess of cables that you’ve probably got tucked away in a drawer somewhere in your house. Label the rolls for easy identification! For more ways to use cardboard tubes, read my post on 10 Clever, Useful Ways to Reuse Cardboard Tubes.

Turn a mason jar into a useful dispenser for small items, like paper clips or hairpins, by using the dispenser from an old juice carton! Get the full instructions for the DIY Mason Jar Dispenser here.

A craft caddy can make switching purses a breeze. Simply place all of your important items in the various caddy pockets, including your phone, wallet, chap stick, and whatever else you like to keep with you, then you can pull the caddy out and put it in a new bag whenever the urge strikes! For more details, visit A Fast and Easy Way to Change Purses.

Stay organized (or motivated!) by turning old picture frames into erasable boards! They’re perfect for to-do lists, shopping lists, or reminders for the kids. Find full instructions for both projects by reading Save Paper With These Simple DIY Erasable Boards.

An empty prescription pill bottle makes a great container to keep an emergency stash of quarters. Keep it in your car so it’s handy to use for parking, tolls, and snack emergencies. 🙂 For tons more ways to use pill bottles, head to 17 Ways to Repurpose Prescription Pill Bottles.

Rather than tossing out the daily paper after reading it, you can put it to good use by making it into an origami wastebasket! These wastebaskets are simple to make, and are perfect to use in trash-light areas like bedrooms or an office. Get the full instructions here, at How to Make an Origami Trash Can.

A cardboard coffee caddy can easily be reused as a portable “homework caddy”! Fill it with all of the homework essentials like a calculator, pencils, pens, colored pencils, glue, etc., and your child will be prepared for homework no matter which room they choose to study in! Find the full instructions at DIY Organizers for Your Home

I love this idea for using an old pallet to keep your large garden tools organized. Visit Flea Market Gardening for more great ways to use pallets in your garden.

A spare strawberry container makes a great place to keep all those spare batteries! Check out more great ways to reuse strawberry containers at Your Modern Dad.
