Create A Scrapbook Journal – A SMASHing Idea!

Let me preface this post by saying I am not much of a journal-keeper OR a scrapbooker…although I do make feeble attempts at both once in awhile. When I first heard about SMASH Books (which are kind of a mutation of the two put together) I didn’t “get it.” But then my sister bought me a SMASH Book at Michaels the other day….and I thought it was so cute that I simply had to figure out something to do with it!

It took me a few days, but then it hit me….this would be the perfect place to keep all those “recipes” for essential oil blends and homemade laundry solutions, that I have stashed all over the house. Some are taped inside my kitchen cupboard doors, some are stuck to the refrigerator with a magnet, and some are just rattling around inside my brain (a dangerous place to be kept!)

I get so frustrated when I can’t remember the recipe for one of my concoctions and have to go to my computer or phone and look it up. It would be SO much more convenient if they were all in one place!  Thus the Jillee Scrapbook / Journal / SMASH Book was born! (I really need to come up with a better name than that!)

If you are not familiar with SMASH books…here is a darling video that sums it up quite nicely by the creators of the SMASH Book, K&Company. 🙂

Since I love creating printable stuff (I much prefer that to writing things out in my messy “lefty” handwriting,) I took a slightly different approach to my Jillee Scrapbook / Journal / SMASH Book. I made up some simple “recipe cards” for my most often used concoctions.

My go-to essential oil formulas are cold and flu (comes in very handy in the wintertime), allergies, sleep, all-purpose healing blend and the oh-so-important headache recipe!  I use these often and while I should have them memorized by now, sometimes my brain misfires and I draw a complete blank. So frustrating.

My most often used laundry solutions are the miracle whitener, the cure for yellow armpit stains, and my powdered and liquid laundry homemade detergent recipes.

After printing and cutting them out (with some pinking shears to be extra fancy!) I sat down at my kitchen table with the decorative tape, the fun little stick-on sayings, quotes, & tidbits, that were all provided, and began SMASHING!

I have to say…this was the most fun I’ve ever had journaling or scrapbooking!  It was quick and easy, and so useful!  I now have all my random remedies in one place and I know exactly where to go look for them when I feel a cold coming on or I run out of homemade detergent!

I wish I could send all of you your very own SMASH book to play with! But since I can’t quite swing that, I did make up some printable recipe cards that you can download to help you start your own book.

Cold & Flu Bomb

Allergies Relief

Sleepytime Blend

All-Purpose Healing Stick

Headache Buster Blend

Miracle Whitening Solution

Armpit Stain Remedy

Liquid Laundry Detergent

Powdered Laundry Detergent

You could easily make your own SMASH book with a blank book, or even a spiral notebook! Just buy yourself some cute washi tape and a few little SMASH book accessories at the craft store and go to town!

I would love to see what you come up with! I can’t wait to work on mine some more!
