Deliciously Creative Uses for Ice Cream Cones

The ice cream cone is the perfect vessel for ice cream, but they also work perfectly for serving all kinds of other snacks, meals and treats! Cones are cheap, available at every grocery store, and add an element of FUN to just about anything! I love a good cannoli, but have never made them before because the shells seemed like too much work. With this simple recipe, you use sugar cones for the shell, and just whip together a quick filling.

Here’s the recipe:

Cannoli Filling

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) container of ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

Combine all the ingredients (except the chocolate chips) and mix until smooth and creamy. Place the filling in a quart-sized zippered plastic bag and refrigerate for a few minutes, just so it stays nice and cold.

Snip off a corner of the bag and pipe the filling into the cones, topping with mini chocolate chips.

They look adorable, taste amazing, and are so easy to make!

Here are 8 more creative uses for these salty, sweet, crunchy treats:

Serve tuna salad in a waffle cone! Waffle cones aren’t very sweet, so they just add a crunchy shell for any sandwich filling. Kids will love this whimsical lunch!

Next movie night, serve everyone popcorn in their own cone – it’s two treats in one!

Fruit salad makes for another tasty filling idea!

Take the bits of broken cones, and add them to your favorite trail mix.

Use cone crumbs, or smash a cone, and use them as bread crumbs. It will bring a slightly sweet crunch to your crab cakes or chicken tenders!

Use sugar cones as the trees in the back yard of your gingerbread houses. 🙂
