I don’t know about where you are….but winter is knocking on our door here in Utah! Three inches of SNOW is predicted for tomorrow! But even with snow, freezing temperatures, and the holidays quickly approaching, there’s always room for a bit of springtime!
I recently made these adorable floral letters to hang on the wall of the conference room in our new OGT studio. I just love how they turned out and look forward to this bit of springtime cheer keeping me “warm” all winter long! 🙂
This is actually the perfect craft for long winter nights because, while they’re easy to make, they do take some time. My recommendation? Plan a Netflix night or catch up on DVR recordings of your favorite show while creating your floral art!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own DIY floral wall decor:

Supplies
- Large paper mache letters (I got these at Hobby Lobby)
- Green craft paint and a brush
- Spools of lace edging, 1.5″ – 2″ wide
- Silk flower bushes, about 2 per letter
- Glue
- Wire cutters
Start by painting the front face of your letters with your green craft paint. This make a nice background for your flowers, and will look better than plain paper mache if it shows through.
Next, use fabric glue (or hot glue, if you’re impatient like me!) to glue the lace along the edges of each letter. Make sure to cover the inside edges too, if your letters have them. I ended up using one and a half spools of lace edging.
Once your lace is glued into place, glue down any lace that is hanging off the edge. Just glue it down to the back of the letter, and no one will ever know. 😉
Now it’s time for flowers! Use your wire cutters to snip the flowers away from the bushes. Leave about 3/4″ of stem on each flower, if you can.
At this point, it helps to sort your flowers by type so you know what you have to work with. Then you can split each type of flower evenly between each letter.
Once you’re all organized, it’s time to start putting the flowers on! Use a screwdriver or nail to punch a small hole where you want your flower to go, then cover the hole with glue, and insert your flower. Repeat until the front of your letters are completely covered.
These cute floral letters could serve so many different purposes! They’d make a great addition to an event like a bridal shower, wedding or birthday party. They would also make a great gift!
