DIY Recipe Tea Towel + MORE Handmade Gift Ideas For Mom!

I can’t believe that Mother’s Day is just around the corner! If you’re stressed about finding that perfect gift for the special women in your life, we’re here to help! Some of the best Mother’s Day gifts I’ve ever received have been simple, handmade gifts that cost very little to make, but were rich in sentimental value. There’s no better feeling than knowing that someone took the time to make special something just for you!

Britta recently came across a this adorable DIY project that I’m sure any mother would love to receive this coming Sunday! With a fabric marker and a little bit of effort, she transformed a simple tea towel into a meaningful piece of kitchen decor.

Britta writes…..

To make your “recipe” tea towel, you’ll need:

  • a clean, pressed tea towel
  • a fabric marker (or craft marker suitable for use on fabrics)
  • a favorite handwritten recipe

Now, obviously you can just go ahead and free-hand the recipe onto your tea towel, but tracing is MUCH easier and preserves the great character of the original handwriting. I scanned this recipe card that my Mom/Jillee wrote out when she was first married for HER Mom’s Cinnamon Rolls. I darkened the text a bit using a photo editor, and then printed the recipe across two different pages to make it as big as I wanted it.

Once you have your recipe blown up and printed out, tape it to the back of the tea towel face-down in your desired location.

If the words of the recipe aren’t showing that well through the tea towel, just tape the towel onto a window and use that as your work surface. (I did this and it made things a lot easier!) Trace the recipe onto the tea towel using your fabric marker. It helps to tape up the original recipe card as well so you can reference it while you trace.

Once you’ve traced over the recipe, take the towel down from the window and go over any spots that need to be touched up. Allow the ink to dry for a couple of minutes, and you have a beautiful, heartfelt gift that is sure to impress. 🙂
