The Best DIY For People Who Dread Cleaning The Toilet

Plop, fizz, and scrub your way to a clean toilet with easy-to-make toilet cleaning tabs!

Who doesn’t love a good a fizzy tablet or “bomb”? From bath bombs to denture cleaning tablets and beyond, there’s something incredibly satisfying about dropping a tablet into water and watching it fizz away as it dissolves. There are even fizzy bath bombs that can unclog you toilet!

And there’s something even more satisfying about it when you’ve made those fizzy tablets with your own two hands, like the homemade toilet cleaner tabs I’ll be sharing with you today! 🙂 Just drop one into your toilet bowl, let it fizz, then give it a good scrub with your toilet brush to leave your porcelain throne fresh and clean.

How To Make Homemade Toilet Cleaner Tabs

You’ll need:

Add baking soda and citric acid to a mixing bowl and mix well.

In a separate container, mix the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide together.

Then slowly pour the liquid mixture into the bowl of baking soda and citric acid, and stir until it starts to clump together.

Add a total of 40 drops of your essential oil (or oils) of choice. I chose to use lemon oil here, but I love using any kind of citrus oil in my cleaning recipes. Citrus oils not only smell wonderfully fresh and clean, but many of them have antibacterial and disinfectant properties, too.

Next, prepare your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. Use your tablespoon or another small scoop to scoop up some of the cleaning mixture you made. Pack the mixture down into the scoop with your fingers, then gently tap it out onto the baking sheet. Repeat until you’ve used all of the mixture in the bowl.

If your cleaning tabs look a bit dry or crumbly, follow the next step. (If not, you can just skip to the drying stage.) Pour a small amount of vinegar into a spray bottle, then lightly spritz the tabs to help them stick together.

Finally, place your baking sheet somewhere out of the way and allow the cleaning tabs to dry overnight. When the tabs are completely dry, store them in an airtight container.

How To Use Your Homemade Toilet Cleaner Tabs

To use, drop one tab into the toilet bowl. Let it fizz and bubble for a few minutes.

Grab your toilet brush and give the bowl a good scrub. Flush the toilet, and admire the clean! (Sparkly!) Use once a week for a deep clean.
