How To Make Homemade Mouthwash For Whiter, Stronger Teeth

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not much of a mouthwash user. The store-bought varities I’ve tried have burned a LOT, which makes it hard to want to keep at it! There are other things I struggle with besides the burning sensation. Most mouthwashes have an ingredients list a mile long, but natural and organic mouthwashes that you can find in stores can be very expensive! So what’s a girl to do? If you know anything about me or this blog, I’m guessing you know where I’m going with this… 😉

Let’s make our own mouthwash! It’s incredibly easy, and after a small investment in ingredients, you’ll be able to whip up dozens of batches of mouthwash for cents on the dollar compared to store-bought brands. And best of all, you’ll be taking an important step towards a healthy mouth!

Before we get down to it, let’s talk about what goes into this mouthwash. There are two ingredients that may be unfamiliar to you – calcium carbonate and a liquid solution of concentrated trace minerals. These ingredients are both mineral-based, and help restore mineral content in your teeth. As you know, the enamel on your teeth wears down over time. The presence of the minerals in a mouthwash can help reintroduce minerals to your teeth, helping them stay strong and healthy.

The other major players in this mouthwash are peppermint and lemon essential oils. Peppermint essential oil obviously provides a nice minty flavor, but it also helps kill germs and bacteria in your mouth. Lemon essential oil is also a powerhouse in terms of fighting germs. The final ingredients in the mouthwash are purely utilitarian – filtered water to make it easy to swish and gargle with, and a little bit of stevia to help with the taste (purely optional, of course).

Now let’s get down to business, shall we?

Combine all the ingredients in a quart-sized mason jar. Give it a good shake to make sure everything gets well mixed. Store at room temperature for a week or two, or in the fridge for up to a month.

This is a gentle and natural mouthwash that I will have no trouble working into my daily routine. 🙂
