Make Your Own No-Mess Exfoliating Sugar Scrub Cubes

Welcome to Spa Week! All week long, we’ll be sharing our best tips for bringing the spa home. For Day 6 we’re making simple exfoliating Sugar Scrub Cubes!

I love using sugar scrubs, but it’s always a bit difficult to get out just the right amount while you’re in the shower and your hands are wet! When I saw an idea for sugar scrub cubes, I decided to give them a try! You get the exfoliating and moisturizing power of your favorite scrub, plus the convenience of a pre-measured cube.

They are easy to make, easy to use, and they leave my skin feeling so soft!

DIY Sugar Scrub Cubes

Ingredients

You can use any carrier oil that you like! I went with avocado oil, but you can also use almond oil, coconut oiljojoba oil, hempseed oil, grapeseed oil, or even olive oil! In addition to the avocado oil, I added about a teaspoon of vitamin E oil for extra moisturizing, but that’s optional, too! The total amount of oils you use should amount to 1/4 cup all together.

I used a shea butter soap base, but it will work with any type! You can also buy a glycerin soap base or a goat’s milk soap base. I found mine at a local craft store, but you can also buy it online.

Start by chopping up the soap base, this makes it much easier to measure. Then, combine your soap base and carrier oil. Place them in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until the ingredients easily mix together, stirring every ten seconds.

Next add your scent and color (if you want to.) I only added 1 drop of the dye, and I wish I had added more, so I suggest 3 drops. You can use any essential oil you want, but I went with the my all-time favorite, Lavender. It’s calming, reduces stress, and is perfect for a nighttime bath. Grapefruit would be another great choice for a more invigorating, morning shower!

Before you add the sugar, make sure you have your molds ready to go! You can use an ice cube tray, a mini muffin pan, or your favorite silicon mold to make your sugar scrub cubes; but you want a fairly small shape!

Mix the sugar into the oil and soap mixture, and quickly pack the mixture into your mold. It hardens pretty fast, but it will be fine as long as you work quickly! Put the mold into the freezer for at least 30 minutes, remove the cubes, and seal them in an airtight container (or they will dry out.)

To use your sugar scrub cubes, take one into the shower, break up in your hand, and scrub it all over, especially where your skin is dry! I love using these – they’re so simple, smell amazing, and leave my skin so smooth! I hope you love them, too.
