7 Creative & Gift-Worthy Ways To Package Homemade Cookies

Giving homemade cookies to the neighbors this year? Ditch the paper plate and get creative with these 7 simple ways to package cookies for gifting!

What do Santa Claus and your neighbors have in common? They both appreciate a nice plate of homemade Christmas cookies! (Full points for correct answers, partial credit for “a taste for garish holiday decor” and “they only come around once a year.”)

Yes, much like Santa, your neighbors would surely enjoy an offering of homemade Christmas cookies this year. My go-to gift for neighbors and people from church is typically a big plate of sour cream cookies, which I love giving away as much as people love getting them!

And while giving away cookies is mainly about the gesture, it certainly doesn’t hurt to make them look nice too! To get your creative juices flowing, here are 7 fun and easy ways to package cookies for holiday gifting!

7 Creative Ways To Package Cookies For Gifting

1. Muffin Tin

If you’re giving a variety of cookies, or just want to make your gift a little more useful, you can pack them up in a muffin tin! A half-size muffin tin (the ones with only six cavities instead of twelve) are perfect for this.

Fill each cavity with a different cookie, then add some decorative ribbon or washi tape to finish it off. It makes for a cute presentation, and they’ll be able to reuse the muffin tin afterwards

2. Decorative Tin

When packing up cookies, you can’t go wrong with a classic treat tin! Check your local dollar store or craft store for inexpensive decorative treat tins.

Fill up your tin with cookies, slap a bow on the lid, and you’re done!

3. Paper Cup

For small cookies or other bite-size treats, you can make an adorable treat box out of a paper cup to pack them in! Use a pair of scissors to cut a 1” slit from the lip of the cup towards the base.

Make another cut about 1” to the side of the first, and continue making cuts until you’ve gone all the way around the cup. Place your cookies inside, then fold the flaps down one at a time to close it up!

Larger paper cups will accommodate larger cookies, and longer cuts will cover the opening more completely.

4. Scrapbook Paper & Ziplock Bag

There’s nothing wrong with packing your cookies up in a good old-fashioned ziplock bag! You can make it a bit more festive by cutting a piece of holiday-themed scrapbook paper to size and sliding it inside the bag.

The scrapbook paper layer will also keep the bag lying flat, which is especially useful when you want to keep decorated cookies arranged in a single layer!

5. Foil Pans

Disposable foil pans are great for gifting cookies! They typically come with plain paper lids, but you can easily dress them up with a bit of wrapping paper and some double-sided tape!

6. Mailing Tube

If you’re looking for something a bit more sturdy to pack your cookies in, mailing tubes are a great option. They’re available in a variety of sizes, and you won’t have to worry about your cookies getting crushed or crumbled on the way to their destination!

Wrap the tube in a piece of striped wrapping paper, then tie off the ends to give it a fun candy-inspired look!

7. Cellophane Bag

We eat with our eyes first, so why not give your giftee a good look at those delicious cookies you’re giving them? A simple cellophane bag is a great way to do just that!

Cellophane bags are cheap, easy to find, and come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Just place your cookies inside the bag, tie it off, and gift it!
