Special K Candy – A Super Easy Friend or Neighbor Gift Idea!

I have some great neighbors. I don’t tell them or show them nearly enough how much I appreciate them, but I do like to at least offer a token of my affection at Christmastime in the form of a treat of some kind. In the past I’ve shared My Mom’s Sour Cream Cookies and My Mom’s English Muffin Bread (my Mom IS a wonderful cook!) along with some Honey Butter Ambrosia…just to name a few. This year, however, I may try a new treat that my daughter-in-law Kaitlyn introduced me to from her Grandma. It’s one of those treats that you just can’t stop eating! It’s THAT good!

Kaitlyn writes…….   One of my favorite things about the Christmas season are all the yummy goodies that friends and neighbors drop by my house. It’s not so great on my waistline but I look forward to all the homemade treats every year. Recently, I was looking through a cookbook that my cousins put together with family recipes and found one that would make a perfect Christmas gift.

This treat is called Special K Candy and apparently it’s an old family favorite that my grandma used to make! My grandma passed away when I was a little kid so I never had the opportunity to try her cooking. I thought it was so special that my cousins included a picture of her original recipe in the family cookbook.

This recipe could not be easier or more delicious!

Special K Candy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 24 large marshmallows or 12 jumbo marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4-5 cups Special K cereal

Directions

Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar and marshmallows in a medium pot.

Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until all the ingredients are well combined.

Add the vanilla and cereal to the pot and stir to combine.

Pour onto a cookie sheet to cool. After the candy reaches room temperature, break into pieces.

Package it in some cellophane bags with a cute ribbon and gift tag and you’ve got a super easy Christmas gift for neighbors and friends!

What is your go-to neighbor gift?
