This Easy DIY Will Make You Ditch Messy Body Scrubs For Good

Ready to meet your new favorite DIY project? I'll show you how to make sugar scrub bars that combine the best parts of a moisturizing soap and a sugar scrub in one convenient bar!

I have to say, I’m really excited about today’s post! I think it’s been a while since I last shared a DIY bath or body product with you, and the one I’ll be sharing with you today has become a new favorite of mine!

Today I want to show you how to make homemade sugar scrub bars. But if you’re anything like me, you may already asking yourself, “What the heck is a sugar scrub bar?” 😉

What Is A Sugar Scrub Bar?

These sugar scrub bars are sort of like a hybrid between a moisturizing bar soap and a body scrub. Instead of using a body scrub and then washing up with soap, you can use one of these bars to do both at once!

In addition to saving you some time in the shower, these scrub bars also make exfoliating your skin quick and easy. And exfoliation is one of the best ways to keep your skin feeling soft and looking radiant!

By combining gentle exfoliation with skin-nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, glycerin, and lavender oil, these easy-to-make bars have earned a permanent spot in my bath and shower!

A Note About Ingredients

Before I show you how to make them yourself, I wanted to share some additional information about a couple of the ingredients that are listed below in the recipe.

Firstly, you may notice that I don’t specify what type of melt & pour soap base you should use. That’s because you can use whatever kind you like! (I used an oatmeal soap base for its creamy texture and skin-soothing properties!)

Secondly, for those unfamiliar with colored mica, it’s a shimmery, mineral-based colorant used frequently in soaps and cosmetics. Adding a mica is an easy way to add color and sheen to your sugar scrub bars, but it’s optional and totally up to you. 🙂

Tools & Supplies

In addition to the ingredients listed below, here’s what you’ll need to make your own sugar scrub bars:

Okay, that’s enough more than enough chit-chat. Let’s get to the recipe, shall we? 🙂

How To Make Homemade Sugar Scrub Bars

Ingredients:

1/2 cup melt & pour soap base
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 cup sugar
1 Tbsp vegetable glycerin
Colored mica (optional, see above)
15-20 drops lavender essential oil

Directions:

Cut your melt & pour soap base into small cubes, then measure out a heaping 1/2 cup. Put the soap base cubes into a microwave-safe glass measuring cup and set aside.

Pour the vegetable glycerin into a ramekin. Add the mica, if using, and stir well with a bamboo skewer. (The amount of mica you’ll use will vary based on how vibrant you want the color to be. Start with 1/2 teaspoon and add more if necessary.)

Microwave the soap base in 10-second increments, stirring regularly with a bamboo skewer, until it is fully melted. Add the coconut oil to the melted soap base and stir until well incorporated. Then add the sugar to the oil and soap mixture and stir again.

Finally, add the glycerin mixture and essential oils and stir once more. At this point, your mixture should have a slushy consistency. (If it has started firming up, just microwave it for another 10 seconds or so.)

Pour the slushy mixture into the cavities of your silicone mold and set it aside. Allow the bars to solidify completely before removing them from the mold, which could take anywhere from one hour to overnight depending on your climate and humidity.
