I’ve been having such a great time in the OGT Inner Circle group. It’s given me the opportunity to chat with you guys, get to know you a little bit better, and even share a bit more about my own life! In fact, a week or so ago I shared a picture of my sister’s new chocolate lab puppy Gunner. (He’s so stinkin’ cute I couldn’t help but share him with the group!) It sparked a fun discussion about pets, and it got me thinking about some of the the amazing pet-related tips that I’ve come across over the years.

One of the best ones I’ve ever come across was a tip that was shared with me by a reader of mine named Shauna. She told me about a super simple way to lift pet stains – some of the toughest carpet stains you’ll find – out of carpet, and at first it almost seemed TOO simple. How could baking soda and vinegar lift the color and odor of a pet stain out of carpeting?
But let me tell you—it just WORKS. It’s easy, effective, and requires almost no scrubbing. It’s one of the best tips that any pet owner can know, so I’m here to share it with all of you today!

Author’s Note: At first, we weren’t sure how we were going to get a pet stain that we could remove in order to take these photos. We learned that you can buy doe urine online to use for hunting, so we bought a bottle to make our own pet stain! It turns out that bottled doe urine is much more concentrated than we had anticipated, so the stain in these photos is more of a brownish-red. But as you’ll see, the stain came out just fine! We think that if this remedy can lift even bottled doe urine out of a carpet, no other pet stain will stand a chance! 🙂
How To Remove Pet Stains From Carpet
You’ll need:
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- A large dish
Directions:
Step 1 – Soak With Vinegar
Start by pouring white vinegar over the stain. You want to saturate the area without leaving it soggy.
Step 2 – Sprinkle With Baking Soda
Next, sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda over the soaked stain. You’ll hear it start to crackle and fizz, signaling that the baking soda and vinegar are beginning to react, lifting the stain and odor out of the fibers of your carpet.
Step 3 – Wait
After sprinkling the baking soda onto the stain, the next thing you’ll need to do is simply wait! It will take a day or two for the stain to lift and the vinegar to dry, so I just place a large dish over the stain. The dish keeps people from tracking baking soda around the house, and it helps remind me that the stain is still there so I don’t forget about it.
Step 4 – Vacuum It Up
Once the spot is completely dry, you can scoop up the majority of the baking soda into a dustpan and throw it away. Finally, use your vacuum to clean up any leftover baking soda. And voila! The carpet will be fresh and clean, without any scrubbing required.
This simple process works so well! As you can see, the dark and smelly stain we made using our store-bought doe urine was removed completely. Give it a try the next time you have a pet stain to deal with, and make sure to share it with your friends and family who have pets too! 🙂
